Spanish & Volunteer

We enjoy helping you to help the local community. Montanita Spanish School currently has the following volunteering options available:

See Appendix 1 for Spanish program requirements

1. Elementary/Primary School
Ours is a typical Ecuadorian small town school, providing education for local children between the ages of 5 and 11. As is usual with Ecuadorians in general, the children are super friendly and before you know it they are running out in the street to say ¨Hola¨ as you walk by.

The school is looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic about getting involved in the local community and have some skills that they would like to share. With growing tourism in Montanita the children are very interested in learning English and would appreciate your help, however this is not the only option. If you have any other passions such as sport, art or anything else you would like to share, they will love the time you spend with them.really needed. Your input is appreciated.

2. Local Children's Nursery
Come and bring joy to the children at the Guarderia in Manglaralto. By joining this integral part of the local community staffed only by parents and volunteers, you will be making a difference to the lives of these young children and will be welcomed like a neighbor. This is an extremely rewarding opportunity that you will never forget.

3. Aquarium
Help care for wildlife at the Animal Rescue Center or work with the Kids Ecological Club at the only coastal aquarium in Ecuador. Share your creativity and energy working onsite at the Aquarium or Homework center. By volunteering at this pivotal part of the community you will be welcomed with open arms and treated like an honorary ¨local¨, an experience you will remember forever.

4. Medical Volunteering (available to students in our Medical Spanish Program only)
Medical volunteering in coastal Ecuador is an excellent option for those wanting to experience the hands on , limited technology approach of third world medicine. You will find it enriching, rewarding and inspirational and go home with a better understanding of the difficulties associated with providing healthcare with very limited resources.

From day one you will be working side by side with local doctors and nurses, using your medical skills as they complete their daily tasks. You will have plenty of direct patient contact and the opportunity to participate in house visits as well as working in the lab and pharmacy. What makes Montanita a truly great medical volunteering experience is the level of patient interaction and the willingness of your supervisors to share their knowledge and skills. Both of which will contribute immeasurably to your professional development.
